Job description

For the past 30 years, we at Peopleware have been developing innovative cloud-based Workforce Management (WFM) products that support companies worldwide in effectively planning and managing their teams, while optimizing workforce processes.

We’re now taking a major strategic step:

We are migrating our core infrastructure from AWS to a dedicated environment to enhance our technological independence and performance.

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (f/m/d) based in Düsseldorf, you will be a key part of our growing infrastructure team and play a central role in building, migrating, and operating our new platform. You will work closely with our development and product teams to deliver a highly available, scalable, and secure infrastructure for our SaaS solutions.

What you'll do:

  • Infrastructure Setup & Migration: Together with the team, you plan, design, and implement our new bare metal Kubernetes infrastructure and oversee the migration from AWS

  • Kubernetes Management: You are responsible for installing, configuring, managing, scaling, and maintaining our Kubernetes clusters running on dedicated hardware

  • Automation: You develop and maintain robust automation solutions for provisioning and deployment – using tools like Terraform and Ansible.

  • Monitoring & Logging: You set up systems for monitoring, logging, and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) to proactively track the health and performance of our SaaS products

  • Operations & Optimization: You ensure a stable and high-performance platform, including analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and ongoing performance/cost optimization.

  • Security: You implement and monitor security measures at both the infrastructure and Kubernetes levels (e.g., network policies, secrets management, system hardening)

  • Internal Collaboration: Acting as a technical interface, you work closely with development teams in a DevOps mindset, helping optimize their applications for our Kubernetes platform, defining infrastructure requirements, and ensuring seamless integration and reliable operations

Job requirements

What you bring to the role:

Note: We know this is a broad list of requirements. Don’t worry — no one ticks every box. If you feel this role matches your experience and strengths, we’d love to hear from you, even if you don’t meet every single point below:

  • Solid hands-on experience in building, operating, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters, especially in on-premise environments

  • In-depth knowledge of Linux system administration and experience working with bare metal servers (e.g., provisioning via PXE, IPMI, hardware management, BIOS/UEFI configuration) and virtualization technologies (e.g., Proxmox, VMware)

  • Experience with distributed storage systems (e.g., Ceph) and their integration into Kubernetes (CSI)

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, load balancing, DNS) — both in data center environments and Kubernetes (CNI)

  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)

  • Practical experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)

  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Bash, Python, Go)

  • A proactive, hands-on mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; you communicate effectively on technical topics and enjoy sharing knowledge

  • Nice to have: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, ArgoCD) and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)

What we offer:

Benefits: A hybrid working model (2 WFH days weekly), 30 days holiday, job bike, public transport ticket or free parking, company pension scheme, corporate benefits program, high-end IT equipment (including MacBook).

Feel-good atmosphere: This includes a state-of-the-art office in Düsseldorf’s Medienhafen, free full catering (breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks), team and company events.

Flexibility: Do you need to adjust your working hours (part-time/full-time) or take time out (sabbatical) because your life situation has changed? If we are a match, we make many things possible.

Creative freedom: Bring your ideas to the table, and we'll give you plenty of freedom for your creative development.

Individual development: We value our employees’ personal growth. So, if you're not just looking for a job but opportunities to develop further, you've come to the right place.

Further training: Constantly broaden your horizons! At our open spaces, workshops, conferences, in-house meet-ups and events, or learning from mistakes.

Onboarding: Your direct colleagues will provide you with comprehensive training and will always be on hand to answer your questions.

... and lots more.
